The Government of Mozambique, with the support of the World Bank, is implementing the Urban and Local Development Project (PDUL) whose objective is to “Strengthen institutional performance and provide better infrastructure and basic services to local entities”.

The Project is being implemented in four provinces (Gaza, Niassa, Zambézia and Sofala), benefiting a total of 22 Municipalities.

Legislation on territorial planning under review in the country

Through an initiative called “NOSSO TERRITÓRIO”, the Government is reviewing the package of legislation on the planning of the national territory, with a view to adjusting it to the current context of the country, characterized by the discovery and exploitation of natural resources, the emergence of new urban centers, rapid urbanization of towns and socio-economic vulnerability to natural disasters associated with climate change.

The Review of Spatial Planning Legislation and Urban Land Regulation

Her Excellency Mrs. Ivete Maibaze, Minister of Land and Environment, opened the Seminar and was preceded by the Honorable Arch. Vicente Joaquim, Secretary of State for the City of Maputo, Arch. Vicente Joaquim; and Ms. Gayatri Singh, Co-TTL of the Project representing the World Bank, the entity financing the activity, through the Urban and Local Development Project (PDUL).
